Dreaming about grass
Grass is almost never the subject of a dream and is reported constantly as ground. Where it becomes the subject, it is because it is too long, and that version carries a specific and quite mild guilt.

As a surface it is unremarkable and dreamers mention it only in passing, usually alongside a texture or a temperature underfoot.
Long grass is the reported version. Dreamers describe it as waist high, describe not being able to see the ground, and frequently describe something being in it.
That last detail connects these reports to the being-watched material more than to anything botanical.
A lawn that has been let go is a domestic version of the same and belongs with the garden entry.

Positive readings
Grass underfoot is one of the few tactile details dreamers report positively, and barefoot-on-grass reports are described as pleasant.

The long-grass version produces unease about what cannot be seen, which is the same structure the forest entry describes for limited visibility.

Psychological perspectives
This entry is chiefly useful as a demonstration of the attention principle: grass is present in an enormous number of dreams and reported in almost none of them, because nobody looks at it.
Where it does get reported, something has made it salient, and that something is usually height and concealment rather than the grass.
The tactile reports are worth flagging. Dreams reproduce touch sparingly, so a surface that reliably produces it is unusual.

Grass as transience appears in several religious traditions, usually in the sense of something that flourishes and is gone quickly, and it is a consistent image where it appears.
The lawn as a thing to be maintained is culturally specific and fairly recent, and it is doing the work in the neglect reports.
