What does it mean to dream about many dogs at once?
The multiplying report, and it is a rendering artefact as much as anything.
Dreaming is poor at counting. Dreamers describe a number that changes, a group that is larger every time they look, or an inability to say how many there were. The same thing happens with the spider, the crowd and the room full of people: quantity is one of the properties that will not hold still, in exactly the way text and clocks will not.
That is why the number is rarely the content. What dreamers report is being surrounded, which is a spatial state rather than a threat, and it is frequently reported without any attack occurring.
Where the pack does attack, it belongs with the chase material and the same finding holds: capture is very rarely reported. The dream ends, or the scene changes, or the dreamer wakes.
Where this reads well
Recognising it as the counting failure removes the reading that the number meant something, which is where dreamers usually start.
Where it is harder
Being surrounded is reported as unpleasant even without harm, and it recurs.
Worth asking yourself
How many were there? Did the number stay the same? Did anything actually happen?
