Dreaming about a dog that is happy to see you

What does it mean to dream about a friendly dog?

This is reported far more often than the frightening version and searched for far less, which is worth saying because it distorts what every dream site on the internet appears to contain.

People look up the dog that bit them. They do not look up the dog that was pleased to see them, so the dictionaries fill with attacks and the impression forms that dog dreams are threatening. The reports do not support that.

Dreamers describe recognition specifically: the dog knows them. Where it is a dog they have owned, these belong with the dead-pet material below and are among the most consistently warm dreams in this database.

There is nothing to decode. Dreaming reuses what a person has a lot of, and anybody who has lived with a dog has an enormous amount of exactly this.

Where this reads well

Reported as straightforwardly good, and one of the few entries on this site where the honest answer is that it was a nice dream.

Where it is harder

None, beyond the ache of waking from one about a dog that has died.

Worth asking yourself

Did I know the dog? Was it one of mine? How did I feel on waking?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
