Dreaming about small quantities that stay the same
Why do small numbers seem reliable in dreams?
Where a quantity is small, up to about four, it is reported reliably, and that exception is as informative as the rule.
Small quantities are apprehended directly rather than counted. Three objects are seen as three, without enumeration, which is why they survive where a dozen does not.
So a dream can hold "two people at a table" and cannot hold "the people at a table". The three entry sets this out and it is worth reading alongside.
The practical consequence for journalling: any number above about four in a dream report was either counted, which is unreliable, or supplied afterwards. Treat it as an impression rather than as data.
Where this reads well
A precise and genuinely useful limit on what a dream report can be trusted to contain.
Where it is harder
None.
Worth asking yourself
How many was it? Did I count, or just see? Would I bet on that number?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
