Two records together
Being late for a train
One of the most commonly reported dreams there is, and the pairing has a feature neither record carries alone: the obstacles compound rather than repeat.
What the combination adds
The being-late reports describe effort that produces no progress. The train reports describe a departure that will not wait. Together they produce the most reliably escalating structure in this database.
Each obstacle is different and each is worse. The platform changes. The bag will not close. The concourse is longer than it was. The board will not resolve. Dreamers rarely report the same obstacle twice, which is what separates this from the dreams where one thing simply fails repeatedly.
The train is almost never caught, and dreamers almost never report the consequence of missing it. The dream is the approach.
Where a real deadline is coming, these cluster before it and dreamers can usually date them to the week, which makes this one of the more useful pairings to journal.
The two records
Each is a full entry in its own right, and each covers ground this page does not.
- Being late
One of the most widely reported dreams there is, and one of the most consistent in structure: a deadline, an obstacle that keeps multiplying, and no arrival. The dream is far better at producing the obstacle than at producing the outcome.
- Train
Train dreams are timetable dreams. What dominates the reports is not the train but the schedule around it: the platform that cannot be found, the ticket that is missing, and the train that leaves while the dreamer is still on the concourse.
Worth asking
Did I ever reach the platform? What was the next obstacle after the last one? What is actually coming up?
