What does it mean to dream a song keeps playing?
A distinct and mildly maddening report: a song that will not stop, or that plays over an unrelated dream.
It is one of the few genuinely repeating elements in dream reports, alongside the lighthouse beam and the moth circling a lamp. Repetition is expensive, because the same thing has to be produced again, and this database finds very little of it.
Known music is the cheapest possible way to achieve it. The material already exists, fully formed, and the dream is reproducing rather than generating.
That may be why the songs are nearly always familiar, and it fits the previous scenario exactly.
