Dreaming about kissing
Kissing dreams are reported far more for who than for what, and the most common complaint is that the person made no sense. That mismatch is the whole subject of this entry.

The identity of the other person dominates every report. Dreamers are rarely troubled by the kiss and frequently troubled by who it was with.
Colleagues, friends' partners, people the dreamer actively dislikes and people they have not thought about in years all appear, and dreamers report waking uncomfortable and slightly embarrassed.
The physical detail is usually thin. Dreams reproduce touch less reliably than sight, and dreamers often report knowing a kiss happened more than experiencing one.
A distinct group involves somebody who has died, and those reports are tender rather than romantic and belong with the grief material.

- Who, rather than what, which is what the reports are about.
- Closeness without a stated reason.
- Attention, which several dreamers identify as the real content once they think about it.
- Contact with the dead, in the grief version.
Positive readings
The reassurance is again the useful part: a kissing dream does not indicate attraction and is not a disclosure.
Dreams of kissing somebody who has died are frequently reported as comforting and are a recognised form of bereavement dream.
Difficult readings
Waking embarrassment is the main cost, and it is disproportionate. Dreamers sometimes report finding it hard to look at the person afterwards, which is worth naming so it can be recognised as ordinary.
Where the dream involves somebody the dreamer would not want to be near, the discomfort is real and is still not information.
Psychological perspectives
Dreams recombine available people. Somebody seen daily is available material, and availability is not preference.
That is the single most useful thing to know here, and it explains why colleagues feature so heavily: they are simply the faces the machinery has to hand.
The thinness of physical detail is consistent with how dreams handle touch generally, and it suggests the dream is constructing a relationship rather than a sensation.
Cultural and historical
What a kiss means varies enormously between cultures and between contexts within them, from greeting to reverence to romance, and a dream kiss is not one thing.
Dream dictionaries generally read it as desire, which is the reading most likely to cause a dreamer unnecessary discomfort and the one least supported.

Reasonably supported: tactile content is less reliably reproduced than visual content.
