Dreaming about job interview
The adult examination dream with a person in front of you instead of a paper. The characteristic report is being asked something answerable and finding nothing comes, which has a physiological explanation rather than a psychological one.

The question that cannot be answered is the dominant report. Dreamers describe knowing the answer and being unable to produce it.
Arriving unprepared is the second theme: wrong clothes, no documents, the wrong building, or the wrong day. That belongs with the being-late and clothes material.
The interviewer is frequently somebody the dreamer knows, and often somebody with no connection to work at all, which is the availability finding in the friend and partner entries.
Speech failure is common enough to be worth separating out, and where it occurs the being-unable-to-speak entry is the more relevant one.

Positive readings
Little in the dream. Knowing this is the examination structure in modern clothes is genuinely useful, because it moves the question from what the interview means to what is being assessed in waking life.
Some dreamers report these before real interviews and find them a spur to prepare, which is a real if accidental benefit.
Difficult readings
These track real pressure closely and are tiring rather than frightening.
Where somebody is actually job-hunting, the frequency follows and usually stops when the situation resolves.
Psychological perspectives
Speech commands are not executed during REM, which accounts for the answer that will not come far better than any reading about self-doubt does.
The examination structure is one of the most studied typical dreams and it persists decades after formal education ends, recruiting whatever assessment the dreamer currently faces.
The irrelevant interviewer is availability: dreams cast from who is to hand rather than who fits.

The interview is modern and has no interpretive tradition, though being examined before an authority is ancient and appears in a great deal of religious material.
The entry treats it as the current costume of a very old dream.
