Does a butterfly in a dream mean transformation?
The association arrives complete for most dreamers and is doing more work than anything in the reports.
That is the honest position. Almost nobody dreams a metamorphosis; they dream a butterfly and supply the meaning on waking, because it is one of the very few images that comes with an interpretation pre-installed.
The harvest entry describes the same effect with the seven-years narrative, and the apple entry with temptation. Where an image arrives carrying a reading, the reading is what gets felt regardless of what the dream contained.
Knowing that does not make the association wrong. It makes it yours rather than the dream's, which is a different and more useful thing to know.
