The Guardian Animal

Reports of a guardian animal that does nothing

What do people report a guardian animal doing?

Across the reports the animal usually does nothing at all. It positions itself, faces the threat, and the threat does not proceed. Attack is rarely described.

The positioning is the whole of it, and reporters are unusually specific about direction: between, in front, facing away from the dreamer. That specificity is rare in this archive, where most figures are described vaguely, and it is the reason this record is one of the better evidenced.

Dogs dominate the reports by a wide margin, which is what the continuity account would predict from ordinary exposure.

What the reports agree on

Reporters describe a strong and lasting sense of safety, and frequently remember the animal in more detail than any other archive figure.

Where they differ, and what to be careful of

Familiarity is also the confound: an animal the dreamer knows is exactly what a mind under threat would supply.

Worth recording if this was yours

Which way was it facing? Did it do anything? Did I know the animal?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
