Dreaming about dropping something into a well
What does it mean to dream you listen for something to land?

They drop something and wait. What is reported is the listening rather than the object, and frequently the fact that nothing was heard.
That silence is doing the same job the darkness does: the dream has not generated a bottom, so there is nothing for the object to reach. Waiting for a sound that does not come is the non-arrival structure this database finds everywhere, in an unusually compact form.
