Dreaming about being unfaithful with somebody you know
What does it mean to dream about somebody I would never actually want?
Extremely common, extremely uncomfortable, and the answer is the same one this database gives throughout: dream content does not indicate intent, desire or character.
The other person is frequently somebody the dreamer has no interest in and finds absurd on waking. That is the availability finding: dreams cast from whoever is at hand, which is why a colleague turns up more than somebody loved and rarely seen.
The casting is not a preference. The colleague entry makes the same point about the same discomfort, and the guilt entry covers what to do with the feeling: you did not choose it, and choosing is not available in the state it happened in.
The specific cost here is small and real. Dreamers report being unable to look at a real person normally the next day, over something that occurred entirely inside their own head.
Where this reads well
Naming it early is what stops a day of avoiding somebody, and dreamers who know the availability finding report it passing quickly.
Where it is harder
The self-suspicion is caused by the interpretation rather than by the dream, and it can outlast the dream by years.
Worth asking yourself
Would I have picked them? How did I behave towards them afterwards? Did I choose anything in the dream?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
