Why do I dream about my old house?
Extremely common, and the strongest instance in the database of a pattern that runs everywhere: old settings recur far out of proportion to how much anybody thinks about them.
The childhood home dominates dream reports generally. Old workplaces, old schools and old teachers do the same, and the sibling reports find a brother at the age he was, in the house that age belonged to.
Which suggests dreams store a period whole rather than storing places and people separately, and reach for the whole package when they need a setting.
Recency is plainly not what governs reuse. A house left thirty years ago outranks the one somebody is living in now, and dreamers frequently report detail from it they cannot summon awake.
Where this reads well
Among the more vivid dreams people report, and worth recording in detail while it is fresh: the recall is genuinely better asleep than awake.
Where it is harder
Where the period was unhappy, or the people in it have died, the setting arrives with all of that attached.
Worth asking yourself
Which house, and how long ago? What detail did I have? Who else was there?
