Dreaming about fighting back
What does it mean to dream about defending yourself?
Aggression is more common in dreams than friendliness, which is one of the firmer findings in content analysis, and defending is the form most dreamers are comfortable reporting.
The consistent peculiarity applies here as everywhere in this record: the force is missing. Dreamers describe swinging through treacle, blows that land without effect, and an inability to generate power. The REM atonia is the plausible contributor, and the sensation is a property of the state rather than of the fight.
What is worth logging is whether the dreamer acted at all. Freezing, fleeing and fighting are all reported, and which one appears tracks waking circumstances more usefully than the attacker does.
Where this reads well
Dreamers who do land a blow report it vividly and often with satisfaction, which is worth noting given how rarely it happens.
Where it is harder
Where the dreamer cannot act, the report belongs with the helplessness material and is considerably harder.
Worth asking yourself
Did I fight, freeze or run? Did anything connect? What was I fighting?
Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
