Desire

Dreaming about desire for somebody unexpected

What does it mean to dream about desiring somebody you would not?

The version people are most reluctant to describe and most anxious about, so the answer belongs first: a dream is not a confession, a decision, or a preference.

Dream characters are drawn from whoever the dreamer has encountered recently and often, weighted by exposure rather than by attraction. That predicts colleagues, friends' partners, people the dreamer dislikes, and people they have not thought about in years, which is exactly what gets reported.

Sexual and romantic dream content is common, normal, and a poor guide to waking intention. It is not something anybody has to act on or account for.

Where this reads well

The reassurance is the point of the page, and people regularly report real relief at being told it is ordinary.

Where it is harder

Guilt about a dream is the only harm here, and it is entirely self-inflicted.

Worth asking yourself

Had I seen them recently? Was the feeling about them, or just present? Would I act on it awake?

Dream interpretation is subjective. Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prediction, or medical advice.
